Fraserland Farms

Well, would you believe it. Here I was, a retired air traffic controller in Kamloops operating a small business and becomming slightly bored with the whole scene.

Betty's daughter Shelly calls up and says, "Hey, do you think Larry would be interested in taking on a little contract, It's only for 2 years and a couple of months each summer".

Well, that was in the spring of the year 2000 and things just developed onward from there .....

Where we live Funny photos

Where we live on the farm.

Satellite view of where we live.

Well, this is our lovely spot located at the edge of "cranberry bog #3". It is a quiet secluded area accessable only by dike roads. We have no power, water or sewer. Our water supply consists of a 250 gallon tank that Larry fills up at a farm water tap and transports by tractor. Power is supplied by solar panels when the sun shines supplemented by a 4000 watt honda generator. For sewer disposal we use a 200 gallon storage tank. We have a lift/mascerator combination pump which pumps the black water into the tank. This tank only needs dumping twice a season.

A closer view of our front add-a-room, truck with camper and Betty's parked car.

Sitting in front of a fire relaxing after work with a glass of wine while Betty is cooking supper.

What can I say? This is Betty's supper.

Life on the farm is not all work, .. only about 98% work. Here Larry is having a glass of wine while studying "Church's book on Mexico".

A view of our campsite with cranberry harvesting taking place in the fore ground. This is a beater knocking off the berrys which float to the surface. The berrys are then corraled with small booms for loading. More cranberry photos will follow.

Farm Humour Photos

The word broccoli comes from the Latin bracchium, meaning arm, via the Italian braccio. Broccoli is a cultivar of wild cabbage, remaining exactly the same species. Wild cabbage originated along the northern and western coasts of the Mediterranean, where it was apparently domesticated thousands of years ago. That domesticated cabbage was eventually bred into widely varying forms, including broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, kohlrabi, and brussels sprouts, all of which remain the same species.

.....besides, I love the stuff.

...whoaaa, did I do that?

Our fields are on the rich delta lands of the Fraser River and many are surrounded by drainage ditches. These ditches can sometimes get in the way of operating equipment leading to the odd surprise.

....another view.

....and so, its just a matter of getting a bigger tractor and pulling it out.

....Wadddda you looking a me for?

....of course, trucks are not immune.
